I TOLD the Child Not to Read in the Car...

The other day Mike asked me to run one of our "Value Tales" books over to him at work because he has a co-worker that wanted her son to read it. On the way over Adam said to me, "Oh, I LOVE this book!!" as he opened it up and began to read it. I told him not to read in the car because he is really prone to getting carsick. He said something along the lines of just wanting to look at it for a second...I quickly got sidetracked by traffic and forgot to push the issue of putting the book down.

Minutes later, I heard moaning coming from behind me in the van and heard Adam say weakly, "Mooooom, I think I'm gonna throw uuuuuup." I reached under the front passenger's side seat and whipped out a plastic grocery bag and tossed it toward him while I scolded him for not listening to me, and begged him to, "get it in the bag!"

He was silent for a few minutes and I turned around to check on him and burst out laughing (I know, bursting out in riotous laughter is very sensitive of me) when I saw this...

This picture is a complete re-enactment because I was unable to take a picture while driving upwards of 60 miles an hour down the Bobby Jones Expressway...but, this is what I saw. He had looped the handles of the bag over his ears and he was wearing it just as seen here. The look made me think of the feedbags that are sometimes strapped to the heads of animals.

I quickly stopped laughing, because I feared it would make him think I was making fun of him, and I began praising him for being so clever as to make the bag, "hands free". Evan then shouted from the backseat of the van, "MOM! I am the one who thought up putting the bag on your face like that--first!" Of course, Adam argued back (with his face still bagged), "No! I just thought of it now!" A full on argument then ensued.

Sorry, I am unable to say which son inspired such creative genius. Since, I still consider this item, "patent pending" from a marketing standpoint, I am not sure it really matters. I do think it would be a great selling item once it hit the market but, it is a shame everyone gets a free prototype whenever they visit the grocery store.

That is so funny! Love the picture of the goat right after too. He'll thank you for that when he's older. :)

Genius! Pure genius! I'd buy one!

Oh whew, as I was scrolling down I was getting worried a picture of vomit was at the end.

Clever kids you have there! And they really might be on to something, not just vomit, think of all the possibilities, first being the actual feed sack! Snacks in the car!!

So did he fill the bag?? Not that I really want to know...

Cute, clever boys!!

Are those hanging off his ears? How funny...even if he did feel a little sick.

I was anticipating a vomit picture also! There is nothing worse than puke in a car.

Clever boy!

Jaxon projectile vomits, so we would need very sturdy straps (incase you decide to invent this)

That may be WAY too much information...

My kids are car readers and they don't get sick and I am so thankful for that!

You've got a future invention right there!

Those barf bags can also double as a bib/apron, just slip that over your toddlers arms. Works great!

I'd have been laughing sooo hard too!

LOL!!!

Now the test is tapping into that same ingenuity so you can have him/them generate your million $ idea and move back here already!
Did you hear Kelly's Mallory was called to be camp director?

HA HA HA HA HA (Laughing so hard Annabella asked me "what mom, you laughing")Your boys are just TOOOOOO FUNNY!!I love the picture with the bag on his ears. I would totally buy one!! Do you think that you could make one that completely straps to your toddlers head... or would that just be cruel?

To funny, we too have bags packed in the car, I've found sip lock bags work the best, seals it all up once you are done.

So funny! Our boys get carsick too, but they've never been so creative in the moment! (We use ziplock bags too, but they lack the handles which look more useful than I ever imagined...)

Such smart little cookies! Mmmmm... cookies....

You're boys are the greatest! They remind me so much of Frank and John -- so funny and clever.

Nice comparison! :0)

What smart boys...hands free puke bag. Nothing better!

i am currently dealing with the throw-up bug at my house and certainly appreciate the clever boys you have.
any suggestions for the middle of the night running to the bathroom incidents?

Oh, you are hilarious. When I first saw the picture, I thought, "WOW. She got that shot while driving? Excellent blogger capabilities." I'm glad to know you actually didn't.

Wow, gross and so funny. Poor guy.

Thanks for always leaving such great comments. You are my favorite reader!

And I'm really glad you get my sense of humor, sometimes I think you are the only one. :)

Your kids are as funny as you!

They are also brilliant!

So...what "value tale" did you learn from this?

* Thanks for not sharing "puke" photos...I was a little scared to scroll down.

i love how he looped the handles around his ears! pure genius! i wonder, though, if it would stay once the vomit hits the bag! you'll have to do a trial run and let us all know!! hah!

Oh my gosh, you're so funny Lauren! I for sure thought there would be a picture of vomit in your back seat or something!

Funny, too, that you found a picture of the goat! You crack me up.

On a more serious note, I'm sorry that Adam gets carsick. I do, too. It's not fun. I drive everywhere we go. I think it makes my husband feel de-masculated (is that even a word???), but it's either that or I'd need a bag like Adam, too!

Man oh man, my kid has this issue but he's never actually done the deed. He just tells me he's queasy and I yell at him to LOOK UP RIGHT NOW. So far it's worked, but I think I'm going to stock the car with sacks now. Very good thinkin' young son.

Emy5 said...

I would laugh too if I saw a kid do that. Maybe my kids should model those when we go for long drives.

Aleasha said...

yes, there are large blisters involved. this is no fun... at all. *sigh sigh* anyway, this too shall pass! i think we are on the downhill slide of things.

if i needed anything, i would call. however, i would never EVER wish this on my worst enemy.. okay, so it would be okay if satan got it, but really i am pretty sure he will have blisters elsewhere... if you know what i mean!!!

thanks for the offer though. have a fabulous day!!!

SO FUNNY! I love how your kids are fighting to take credit for the silliness.

Oh and I totally believe in re-inactments :)

I predict a bright future for his genius. :-)

Toooooooooo funny!

Holy 31 comments! NO wonder you sent me that email.

And see, if he just wears it like that all the time, he can read in the car to his heart's content.

And Ryan had Value Tales growing up, but I had Power Tales and they were Waaay better because they had a cassette tape with AWESOME songs on it that went with the books.

Tristan said...

That is hysterical!! I love that you had him "re-enact" it so you could get a picture! Good little blogger you!

You should totally market this! ;)

Twice I've had barf hit me on the neck while I was driving. Only once did I barf in unison. Neither time was it one of my own spawn.

Good work on the plastic bag reenactment.

Nortorious said...

Smart kid. I rode in lots of cars sporting the telling triangle of vomit from barfing at 65 mph out the windows.
He could totally sell those. I'd buy.

My name is Andrea said...

Whew! I was hoping that you hadn't taken the picture while driving...:)

I am also glad that there was no throw up in the picture.

We carry dramamine in the car for my car-sick prone son! It works!

Of course, with a clever invention like that, skip the dramamine, and head straight to the vomit.

Ilene said...

I like how the reenactment picture also includes the pathetic, sick expression as well.

You really are on to something here, I feel millions in your future!

you guys should market those to airlines you could replace those other little bags. So funny!

crystal said...

Genius, sheer genius I tell you!

All you can see are his EYES, but they say it all.
