This Just In...

.
It Snowed in Georgia!!
.
and there has been much joy and rejoicing...
.

Notice, Adam is wearing gardening gloves and Evan is wearing my gloves. When we lived in Virginia we had plenty of snow gloves, but not anymore.

At least Brian was able to wear hand-me-down snow gloves from our days in Virginia. Here he is working on a snowman.

Here we see Evan trying to make a sled out of the recycling bin. We didn't bring any sleds with us when we moved to Georgia because we thought we would never need them. I told him the recycling bin would never work because it has holes in the bottom...I was also quick to point out that it would probably have worked a little better if he had actually taken the items to be recycled out of the bin prior to trying to sled in it.

As the afternoon wore on and more and more snow kept falling the boys started to make a snow fort to, "Ambush Dad!!" when he got home from work.

The whole backyard was soon covered.

I was trying to take an, "artsy" picture of this tree because it looked so beautiful, but it really didn't work.

The front yard. By the time the snow quit falling I would say we got three inches.

Brian completed his snowman with the help of Evan and Adam. I even think Mike helped...after he was ambushed with snowballs, of course.
...and this is how Little John spent his time during our first snow storm in Georgia.

(He was actually sleeping with this teething bear in his mouth, but the time I got back with the camera he had spit it out)
.
I am afraid to drive in Georgia right now. No, not because I have forgotten how to drive in snow in the four years since we moved from Virginia, but because the people in this town evidently. cannot. drive. I feel that I am at liberty to make this judgment because this past Tuesday night marked the THIRD CAR ACCIDENT that was not our fault that Mike or I have been involved in either on the way to, or returning from Young Men/Young Women/Boy Scouts/Cub Scouts. Tuesday night's accident occurred on my way to drop Evan and Adam off at their activities. It was raining and slick and as I turned onto a road and was still in the merge lane the car behind me was following too closely. I slowed down and waited to merge because the light for the oncoming traffic was still green and the traffic was moving quickly on the wet roads and there was a glare that made it difficult to see. The car behind me tried to get around me on my left and scraped the back panel and bumper on the driver's side.
.
Again.
.
You may remember this little experience. Yeah, same exact driver's side rear quarter panel and bumper took a hit.
.
I am thinking of painting a large, bright, target on my driver's side back bumper and panel...you know, just to be more efficient.
.
I guess if I didn't want Evan to take the new electric skillet that Mike got me for Christmas to the combined Young Men/Young Women activity for a quesadilla making contest...I could have just said so...instead of somehow managing to get in yet another car accident.
.
All joking aside though, nobody was hurt and if being inconvenienced the night of the accident and during the upcoming repairs is all I have to face, well...then, I lead a pretty blessed existence.
.
But nobody is allowed to sit in that back seat on the driver's side (like Adam was this past Tuesday night and Evan was during the accident in March'08) anymore, either.

You are so funny! I can't believe how much snow you got!! That is TONZ!!

This has been the craziest winter!

I love the picture of LJ sleeping. He's just beautiful!! I seriously just want to kiss his sweet little cheeks! :)

We are so thrilled for you guys! Congrats on your new arrival! (particularly for Adam, who seemed most desperate) At first we were a little sad about your snow/grassman. But by the end of the pics, you had some hearty snow. You earned it! And maybe you could use the accident as an excuse to homeschool the boys in YM as you have always wanted to do.

Recycling still in the sled, HA! You are raising a proper man right there.

Hello LJ's eyelashes!

I feel like there is some kind of hell freezing over comment to make about the snow, but I bet it's already been said. Snow in the south is totally my way to go, good times once in a blue moon, lasts a day at most and then it's back to hot. Who needs gloves?

Nothing like an unexpected snow to enhance the imagination and improvisation of young kids. So exciting!!!

I am jealous. We have had nothing this year.

That's too funny about your car...I mean horrible. Yipee for snow. I love how the snowman might be more grass than snow. :)
I was actually thinking how impressed I was that you even had snow attire when you pointed out that gardening gloves were being used. I also really enjoyed the recycling sledding. Was he trying to yse the milk jug as a sail or something?

Wasn't the snow great!? Just my kind, enough to sled in the morning, then gone by the afternoon! I love your artsy tree picture too-good job. And sorry to hear about the accident, I had no idea!

Snow in Georgia? That is insane. Where is that global warming they're always crying about?

Sorry about the wreck. Bummer.

Your boys are in snow heaven! I love the snowman.
So sorry about the accident. That is so frustrating. Dumb drivers.

1. I'm not good at artsy pictures. I always imagine how Christie or Denae's would have looked and feel very sorry for myself.

2. The recycling bin works MUCH better for building snow forts. We have our recycling dumped out regularly by the neighborhood kids whenever it snows.

3. John has the eyes and eyelashes of a cartoon baby.

4. My last two tickets? On the way to church service. I really think HF should prevent those types of things, shouldn't He?

Ah, those are great photos! Wow, Snow in GA! Looks like you guys really made the best of the snow fun. My fam really wanted it to snow when we were in Ga... But now we have so much that it is far less than a novelty to them. I hear ya on the being worried about other drivers who aren't used to the snow. Even in MD it was frightening to see people who weren't used to it... But 3 accidents, my goodness. You should be able to buy a new car with all that cashing in on insurance, eh? Too bad they only fix it up. A College student hit us in the back a few months ago, so I feel for ya! Such an inconvenience, but it makes you really grateful that everyone is okay!

My girls are jealous of that snow! I love the pictures, they are totally artsy because even more beautiful than the tree is the pure joy on those faces.

I'm glad you are safe...I would have let the profanities fly if it had been me. I hate stupid drivers!

We are garden glove snow people too, don't feel bad. Also, socks work in a pinch.

Okay, seriously. Those pictures of your boys enjoying the snow are SO GREAT! I laughed out loud at the recycling bin sled- and the fact he didn't empty it. :)

I think we appreciate snow so much more when we don't have to deal with it everyday. When it snows here EVERYONE is outside.

Ahhh, there is nothing like a wonderful unexpected treat like a southern freak snow storm to create wonderful memories. It reminds meof a snowfall we had one year while we lived in Texas. IF we'd have made a snowman, it too would have been mostly grass....got to love it!!
Glad you got some more to really make a memory of snow in the south. Loved the recycling bin....before we got some sleds, my kids tried using garbage can lids. Love the creativity!

I think your artsy picture turned out well, I love to see trees dripping with snow or ice--they are so beautiful. You did a good job.

Sorry to hear of the accident. Glad everyone (but the car) is okay though.

I can't believe how much snow you got! The snow we got melted the second it hit the ground. I am ready for some sunshine. I should have invested in two pairs of long pants per child this winter. It has been relentless!

Hey Lauren!
I don't know if you remember me from Blacksburg....but I remember you.
I am finding so many great people following blog links!
Anyway, I hope your little guy is feeling better, your boys are so big, it is good to have updates on your cute family!

One of the only nice things about your spotty posting schedule is I at least feel like I'm not totally behind reading your posts. :-) Of course, you still need to give at least two updates a month!

Love the snow. I especially love seeing kids in the snow who aren't regularly around it!
