Adam turned 8 ☺

This past July 12th our Adam turned 8. I can hardly believe it. As I was preparing to post about his birthday I became verklempt as I looked at all of his old pictures. Luckily for me, he came to help me pick out 8 of his favorite pictures of himself in honor of his 8th birthday. I am so grateful for his help because I had picked out roughly 48 pictures, give or take, (hey, that is only 40 pictures over the intended amount) that I wanted to post. Like I said...looking at his sweet pictures makes me feel all, verklempt. It was a really neat experience to look through pictures with him. Here are his 8 favorite pictures with his thoughts about each one...oh, and my thoughts, too...because I always have to add my two cents.

Mom: "I love your big brown eyes and happy expression in this picture. You were a really happy baby. I am so glad you picked this picture. (If I had to do it over I would have taken the drool bib of of you before letting you play in a ball pit, though.)"

Adam: "I can't think of anything to say about this one. I just like the picture because I am a baby. Make Evan say something about this picture."

Evan: "Yo. He's bald."

Adam: (angrily) "I am not bald in this picture!!"

Brian: "Mooooom! Can I say something about the picture?"

Adam: "No!"

Mom: "Yes, Brian."

Brian: "He has some hair on his baby head."

(8 months old)

Mom: "All Hail, Caesar!!!"

Adam: "No Mom, It's 'All Hail, baby Caesar!' "

Mom: "Oh...you're right...All hail, BABY Caesar!"

(3 months old)

Mom: "We went to the ice skating rink with the Young Men and Young Women for an activity. You were so determined. You stayed out there the whole time with your pickle bucket (buckets provided by the rink) and resisted help from anyone.

Adam: "Yeah...I wasn't a good ice skater so, I had to use a bucket. Oh yeah...and you couldn't skate because you were pregnant with Brian."

Mom: "That's right...I didn't want to hurt our unborn Brian. I had never ice skated before and I didn't figure I should learn while pregnant.

(2 years and 6 months old)

Mom: "I am not sure if you crawled in there yourself, or if Evan stuffed helped you in there... but, I heard Evan giggling and when I came around the corner I found him looking in the dryer. I asked him what he was laughing at and all of a sudden your sweet little head popped out. See Adam, you have been helping me with laundry for years."

Adam: "I think Evan probably put me in there."

Mom: "Yeah...if I were a bettin' girl, I'd say he put you in there, too."

(13 months old)

Mom: " I love this picture, too. Great choice you made. You look so cute with your big brown eyes. You see...you loved Batman (notice your T-shirt) before Brian did... although it is safe to say that you loved Batman and Brian is obsessed with Batman.

Adam: "With the bird on my shoulder, I kinda' look like a pirate."

Mom: "Indeed, you do."

(2 years and 1 month old)

Mom: "*HEAVY sigh* You have always loved to climb. I have often found you ON things or at the top of door frames like you see in this picture."

Adam: "I am a monkey and I love to climb."

Mom: "Yeah...just don't start throwing your poop."

(4 years and 1 month old)

Mom: "I would just like to point out that this picture was taken on the garage floor. I would have never kept my kitchen floor that filthy...it is still filthy but, not that filthy."

Adam: "Pumpkin guts are so cold and stringy...I think that is why I am screaming."

(4 years and 3 months old)

Mom: "You have always had a hard time falling asleep at night. In this particular picture, Daddy and I had let you and Evan fall asleep in our bed because we were watching a movie in the family room. We thought for sure, our letting you relax in our bed would have helped you fall asleep quickly. When we came to put our two sleeping boys in their beds we found a sleeping Evan and you, dressed like this."

Adam: "I couldn't fall asleep so I dressed up like I was in jail."

Mom: "Okay...so tell us how you really feel about having to go to bed."

(3 years and 11 months old)

Here are two, "bonus" pictures from Adam's 8th Birthday Party. I wanted to parenthetically call it the, "Adam is 8, and is Great Party!" but my fabulous party title idea was quickly shot down by...well...everyone. sheesh...everybody's a critic.

For Adam's party we went Cosmic Bowling!! What is Cosmic Bowling, you ask? Well, it is no ordinary bowling, friends! They turn off the house lights and turn on cool neon lights and get the disco ball a twirlin'. It was really difficult to take pictures because it was really dark but...here we see the birthday boy has just released the bowling ball with a look of steely determination.

One of the perks of being the birthday boy during Cosmic Bowling is you get to keep a special bowling pin for everyone to sign. Don't worry...no one has wielded that bowling pin like any kind of a club, or really small baseball bat since arriving home with it. Not my boys. No, Sirree. Perish the thought.

We truly L♥VE Y♥U, our sweet Adam.

We are so excited for your upcoming baptism this weekend...When you see me crying at your baptism...just know that they are tears of happiness.

Editorial Note: I realize I need to catch up on posts like...

  • Evan's 11th Birthday
  • Our Beach Trip
  • How My Husband Cheered Me Up When I Was Sobbing
  • Adam's baptism ( I know it hasn't happened yet, but...I am so behind that I already feel like I am already behind on posting about it)
  • How we know the TOOTH FAIRY, personally.

And much, much more....

I am already overwhelmed...

What a handsome boy! Does he want to go out with my six-year-old daughter, say in about 14 years when he's fresh off his mission?

Christie said...

I guess that would be more like 15 or 16 years. So your son's new mother-in-law can't do math. Whoops.

My Maya is turning eight in three weeks!!! Adam is adorable and if things don't work out between Maya and Gabe R. then I maybe I can have Adam as a back up...we have...oh a few odd years before we have to worry about that...

AND I hope you find some time to catch up on your blogging. I can't wait to hear about all that fun stuff! Well you sobbing doesn't sound like fun but you've given us a cliffhanger!

Okay so I am so glad that I finally get to read a new post!! I also understand the fact that you haven't posted much, I mean with all the crying over having to leave the primary and all. I will cut you some slack and look forward to all the other loving witty posts that will follow.

I absolutly love how you had Adam pick out the pictures!! I am so glad that I am not the only one who posts my kids conversations...

We are truly lonely without you in primary and I am wondering who is gonna laugh with me durning sharing time.... Who is not going to look at me stupidly when I am doing sharing time and making the kids say... "reeepent" like a frog!!! I miss you already!

I'm glad your back! I was excited to hear from you. That Adam is a great little man. I love all the pictures, and what makes them even greater are the conversations with each of them.

I adore the pics in the dryer and with the bird on his shoulder.

Have a great weekend and tell the family hi for me. I should be there, dangit. We need to move to Georgia.

Happy Birthday, Adam! You are one handsome dude.

One of my boys just turned 8 last month. Such a milestone birthday. My 3-year-old has those same Bob the Builder jammies. My boys are obsessed with superheroes, especially Batman. Should we get them all together? :)

Summer has left me behind on posts as well. I finally had to combine a whole bunch of posts into one. I can't wait to hear the "How my husband cheered me up when I was sobbing" post.

Woot, woot! Happy Birthday, Adam! What a handsome little 8 year old. And that was a very clever post!

You know I put pictures under a plastic tablecloth for birthdays? Well, I always bawl the whole time. Ryan just plans on it. It just forces me to acknowledge that they WERE little and NOW are not. SO sad!

Happy Birthday handsome boy! Love all the pictures and comments!

Wow- I always love your blogs. The photo captions are so cool-- have you ever thought of writing a book with these blogs? The one about church behavior would be a HUGE sellout amongst the "Seagull Book and Tape" crowd... if you know what I mean.
Happy Birthday Adam. Is he allowed to grow up so fast?

They grow up to fast...! My daughter turns 11 at the end of August.

That picture of him in the door frame is so cute! He just looks elated. Happy b-day to Adam!

I wanna hear how the Husband cheered you up when you were sobbing! (can he give Mike lessons? he sucks at cheering up)

And how do you know the tooth fairy? Could you contact her & send her to our house, since SHE HAS FORGOTTEN FOR 3 WKS STRAIGHT to leave $$ for Max. He's disallusioned.

I suck.

Wow, it took me a long time to comment here, and now I am the end of a very long line!
Happy Birthday to Adam! Those are great pictures. You know, I have removed my son from both the dryer and the washer in his short life time. Both times, he put himself in.
I look forward to hearing about the rest of your summer! Maybe I will be inspred to post about the rest of my summer, too!

Best picture ever: the one in the drier.
