Grandma and Grandad Marshman (Joyce and Perry) just spent the week with us and it was so good to have them here. I got to spend the most time with them because the kids had school, and Mike had to work...I called Mike one day at work and told him, "Well, it appears that we have
enslaved your parents, but good." I kept telling them they were here to relax, but they were a flurry of helpful activity the
entire time. During their visit, the garden was tilled twice, hedges were trimmed and all of the branches were neatly bagged, a broken window was repaired, the outside lighting that had a short in it was repaired, and new lighting was installed, a trellis that blew down in the gale force winds that we experienced one night was repaired in less than 12 hours, black plastic was put down to prevent weeds growing around the garden and pine needles were mulched over the plastic and other places in the yard, laundry and dishes were continually being done (I didn't quite know what to do with all of the empty baskets in the laundry room, it would be an understatement to say I was delighted and grateful), I got continual help with the little 16 month old boy, Asher, that I babysit, and the children got help with homework and a basketball and football teammate.
Thank you for coming Mom and Dad. It was GREAT to have you...and NOT just because you worked so hard! It was great spending time with the two of you!

This is a lovely picture of my in-laws that was taken several years ago. I missed some amazing photo ops during Grandma and Grandad's visit due to camera battery problems...namely, the rechargeable batteries refused to comply and charge up as they clearly agreed to in their contract. That's what I get for only making a verbal contract with my rechargeable camera batteries.*sigh*

Family coming to visit is the best! Sounds like a great time.
I have really hardworking in-laws too. It's nice to get some free labor once in a while. Enjoy!
I love it when my parents come to visit me! They help out so much with my girls and it is so nice!
One thing about moving is having my mom come out and help me decorate my new digs. She packs one decent outfit and the rest is full of painting clothes and her favorite paintbrushes.
LOVE those visits.
See if they would like to come spend a week with me in sunny AZ?
How fun to have company and help. I bet the boys were in Heaven!
Love family time! Especially the bond that is created between grandparents and their grandkids. How fun!
At least you learned your lesson and next time you'll forego the verbal contract for something written and legally binding!!!
Your inlaws ROCK!!! That is so nice that they helped you so much and right before Spring. Ahhh...don't you feel the cleanliness in the air!
Ilene is right, my mother in law(her mom) is a hard working helper and my father in law too. And plus we like just having them around... hoping they visit soon.
I've got some yard work here that needs attending to. Will you send them over? I'll pay.
Christie's on to something...how about his: a lifetime supply of batteries in exchange for your in-laws!
(Lucky you...oh, and your comment on my blog was so sweet. But left me with a big WHAT?! at the end. Feel free to email with more details to Nosy Jessica.)
Nice. Way to tap in on your resources, ummm, I mean in-laws....
Glad you had a good visit.
I've got a few things that need to be done around here. Can we share?
Nice. It's refreshing to have company that HELPS instead of leaving your house completely trashed! ;)
Family visits are priceless!
Grandparents are the best! They never seem to get tired of the kids!
My parents are the same way. I swear they work harder on their "vacation" to come see us!
I loooove when my folks comes to visit. My dad is the silent fix-it man and makes sure to quietly attend to anything that needs to be done!
How sweet!!
I need some family over at my house to be my slaves! No one does a project like my dad! I wish he lived closer.
Lauren, sounds like an absolutely fabulous visit! I bet things feel really good around there with all that stuff done. I'm glad you all had a nice time together too!
Oh having family is either great or horrible. Glad to hear that it is a good thing :)
Sounds like when my brother in law used to go to my parents every summer, they always had a "Denny-Do" list for him. My in-laws live in our town and on the off chance someone sees this and tells them I commented...they're the best! They're great!! They're generous!!
They don't do any work around our house! Bummer.

Remember your toothbrushing post? Well my 3 yr old hates having his teeth brushed. I started using the 'sugar monsters' idea you had. It worked! Sadly it only worked for about 4 days but it was so nice while it lasted. Just thought I'd say thanks for the advice. :)
Parents visiting, priceless.
blood or not!
Red Rover, Red Rover send
GRANDMA and GRANDAD MARSHMAN
right over!
Do you think they would come visit me next? Love your blog!
So glad to hear they came and helped and didn't bring the flu with them!
Oh, I'm jealous. I would love to have some in-law help around here!
Come say hi on my blog.
Just wondering, did you get affected by the tornado?
Please, can I borrow them for little trip to my house? They sound perfectly lovely in all ways. Glad you all had a great time together!
