Helf-fee Foods

Brian's Primary teacher stopped me in the hallway after church on Sunday to tell me about the opening prayer he had offered at the beginning of class. She explained with a chuckle, how he said in the prayer, "Sank you for the helf-fee foods and, sank you for the NOT helf-fee foods". She said he placed a lot of emphasis on the word, "NOT" and from the upward inflection he used while saying, "NOT" he seemed extremely grateful that our Heavenly Father has seen fit to place, "NOT" healthy foods on the earth. Ahhhh, a child after my own heart. I knew immediately upon hearing his Primary teacher tell the story about his little prayer, that the class discussions they have been having at pre-school about how to keep their bodies healthy, and strong, have made an impact on him.

Now, these pictures don't have much to do with the story but, a healthy food is involved. Last December, Evan and Brian were playing some sort of game. I was listening from the kitchen and I heard Brian calling himself, "The King" and was demanding that Evan feed him. Here we see King Brian's loyal servant Evan, "the minion" feeding his majesty some nectarine pieces. I had to snap a couple of pictures because I am continually surprised at what Brian can get his older brothers to do for him. Does this mean that he is only interested in healthy foods if someone has to be in his servitude? I do realize that Brian is always in that (blasted) Batman outfit. Seriously, he puts it on after pre-school each day. If it is dirty, he begs for me to wash it. He has 4 Batman outfits but, this particular one is far and away his favorite. I guess he likes the, impressive "six pack" abs decorating the front of the shirt. Remember this post? *Sigh*

Brian (4 years and 10 months old at time of the story and 4 years and 7 months old at the time of the picture).
Evan (10 years and 5 months old at the time of the picture)

Don't you just love how much you can find out about them from their prayers! That's my kind of boy!

I'm far more likely to get after the kids from throwing away half a See's chocolate than a plate of "real" food. "We don't waste chocolate in this house!"

My Jack had a favorite Thomas the Tank shirt. We even ended up putting his church clothes on over the top of it because he refused to change, ever. At least you can say you have four costumes.

I'm like Brian, NOT helfee is much more of a blessing. Rice Krispy treats are my current obsession, no prayers for salad.

Jaxon would wear his Spiderman or Power Ranger costume everyday if I let him. In the summer, he does, since I don't care what he wears. I literally have to wash one of them every day!

I'm with ya little man. I'm thankful for the NOT healthy food too! It's my favorite.

Maybe if I start saying how thankful I am for it in my prayers HF will shave off a few calories here and there as a blessing!! It's worth a shot!

I also am thankful for the NOT helf-fee foods. You're raising those boys right!

LOVE IT! I love the helf fee and the not helf fee foods too! I think Brian and my Solomon could be great buds. They would have to take turns being king though.

At least you know he pays attention at preschool, right???

I'm with Brian on all counts: Junk food and having someone feed it to you. Oh, the life....

He's adorable - takes after his mom!

Well, at least you can get him to take the batman suit off for preschool. Andy wore his superman cape to school today. He was determined to "fly into the pit!" At gymnastics you can jump off the trampoline into a giant pit of foam blocks. And yes, he did fly in several times with arms outstretched yelling "Superman saves the day!"

We are supposed to count all of our blessings, so I think not healthy food should be included. Is it any different than when they bless the dessert in the closing prayer at enrichment night? I mean, how healthy can brownies and ice cream be? But I am definitely thankful for them!

One of these days you are going to find that Batman outfit is outgrown and empty. Then you'll be so glad you have those pictures.

yes, not helf-fee foods are the best! That is so cute. My son Ethan is the same way about his Superman costume. It's his second skin.

Your comments always crack me up! I just love you, and yes, this blogging makes me miss you like crazy. But it does bring back good memories and I love knowing about your families goings-on.

P.S. I will no longer refer to him as goat/man. Thank you for the correction.

love you!

My son had the batman outfit too. He loved that dang cape. He had a Superman one as well, but nothing compared to the Batman one.

For what it's worth...I am thankful for the NOT healthy foods too. :0)

I think it's mean Heavenly Father gave us both NOT Helfee foods and cellulite prone thighs.

This is great stuff, Lauren! Keep it coming. Your kids are awesome. And I think I'm a little too thankful for the un-helf-fee foods sometimes! =)

Amen to Jessica's comment. Terribly unjust. And then to have our bodies CRAVE those not hel-fee foods....but, I'm still glad we have them.

I've been trying to play that game around my house, unfortunately it isn't working. The Queen demands a milkshake.

That's the way to pray for the non-helfee foods. Recently my friend said the prayer at a fireside and stumbled over how to bless the refreshments. She settled on "Please bless it to not make us sick."

I usually try not to laugh during prayers in public.

Okay. Your linked post about Supernanny had me seriously rolling. Kids say the meanest things. I asked Levi tonight why he always "needs his space" when I want to snuggle with him and he said, "because your breff always smells so horrible." Geez. Thanks.

And I like not helfy food too. It makes me happy on the weekends.

My boy wears his spiderman shirt under his church clothes every Sunday.

I need a shirt giving me six-pack abs. My shirts only emphasize my non-existent ab muscles.
