We Had a Snow Day...

.
Yes, you read the title correctly...
.
We did, indeed, have a snow day here in Georgia...
.
It was missing only one ingredient...
.
The missing ingredient...would be the snow...
.
But who cares, right? A snow day is a snow day...
.
We received one of those robotic voiced messages on Sunday March 1st, 2009 that Evan's school would be closed on the following day. The boys were delirious with happiness. Mike teased Adam and Brian that they would have to go to school, since we did not hear a robotic voiced message from the elementary school. I assured them if Evan's school was canceled theirs was, too. I guess I never officially checked into that. Perhaps, Brian and Adam were playing hooky. I like to live on the edge.
.
The precipitation that was expected never made it to our house...but school was canceled already so...
.
Evan awoke early (Why would any self-respecting 6th grader wake up early when they didn't have to?)
.
...and made me breakfast in bed (oh, scratch that last question.)
He made me sausage and sauteed potatoes with basil and tomatoes. The potato creation was the brain-child of our Adam. Adam kept telling me proudly how he told Evan exactly what to put in the potatoes.
.
I was very grateful for their efforts...and tried not to hyperventilate over the fact that they were using the stove while I was unconscious...er, still sleeping.
.
I love how they brought me the breakfast in a Pyrex dish...since we don't have a fancy schmancy tray. *Note to self: buy fancy schmancy, "breakfast in bed tray" to increase the likelihood of another random act of breakfast deliciousness.

Did you notice the Virginia Tech Hokie cup? No? Oh...well, that is a Virginia Tech Hokie basketball cup.

Don't tell the baby...but my nausea is gone...seriously, though...don't tell the baby 'cause I don't want to jinx it. Even though the nausea is gone, I have been experiencing some major headaches. Ya know the kind where you feel like your head is going to split open and your brain is going to slide out and bounce across the floor and roll under the fridge? Yeah...that kind. The headaches lead to nausea...but...I'll still take that kind of nausea over the former nausea experienced.
.
I am only telling you about my headaches and nausea so that you will feel sorry for me be able to envision the scene as I ate my marvelous breakfast in bed. I was feeling very nauseated from an early morning headache...but I had a gorgeous pair of pleading blue eyes and a gorgeous pair of anticipation filled brown eyes staring at me as I ate. every. bite.

I really do have some great boys. Life is good.

After I took pictures of Evan and Adam to capture the breakfast in bed moment, Adam announced he wanted to go take a picture of Adam so that he wouldn't feel left out.

Here we see Adam's picture of Brian. Brian had slept in and then arose to watch cartoons like any self-respecting Kindergartner with a snow day should do. (Well..."sleeping in" is kind of relative for Brian...I think he slept until about 7:43a.m. but, hey...it was sleeping in, nonetheless.")

. He looks thrilled doesn't he? Well, I can' t blame him...nobody made him breakfast in bed.

I'm a lucky girl, all the way around

Hilarious! You really do have some awesome boys and you are doing a great job! Making breakfast in bed for someone else would be so far from my boys minds, so far! And then it wasn't just breakfast, but Top Chef!

Yea for snow days and sleeping in and breakfast!

I did notice the Hokies cup, I have been indoctrinated.

Still can't get over how awesome your boys are!

Maybe you could send one of your boys to my house after I have my baby so they can pamper me while I lie in my c-section induced coma. Just a thought. :)
I'd say you are lucky but they are only that sweet because you worked hard to make them that way. Finally, you can reap the reward, right?

How sweet is that? You must be doing something right.

PS Mark and I would like to arrange a marriage between one of your boys and one of our girls.

Yeah for gentlemen! (Especially when they are YOUR gentlemen.) What a proud moment!

I'm thrilled that your nausea is gone but so sorry about the headaches.

Definitely get yourself a fancy tray. I think I need one of those too!

That is the sweetest thing I've ever heard boys doing--and on their own too! Mine usually wake me up with "I'm hungry."

And I'm quite sure mine don't even know what basil is. I'm definitely slacking on the instruction.

Random acts of breakfast are good. I'm glad your boys are spoiling you.

Yowza! I got a Eggo Blueberry waffle once.

Have you told the Dr. about the headaches? Can I be your mom for a minute and encourage you to do so? You may be having a blood pressure problem and that's no bueno. Report back.

You are a good sport. I am usually very frightened when the kids bring me breakfast in bed (which they like to do, for reasons unknown to me). Were the potatoes good? Fully cooked or totally crunchy?

You're a good mom. Glad you're feeling better. Sorry about the headaches though. I'd bring that up at your next doctor's appt.

What awesome boys!! Seriously though? Snow in March is getting old.

You know you have some little heartbreakers, don't you? And making breakfast in bed? Some woman is going to be LUCKY someday. For not, enjoy that it is you!

And snow in Georgia? Gracious, we haven't had snow in Colorado for a loooong time!

You so deserved that gourmet breakfast in bed! I only get headaches during pregnancy, and they are fierce. I never ever drink caffeine, except during my pregnancy migraines. Drink 1 can of coke, take 2 tylenol and it works like magic.

Breakfast in bed, how fun! You are lucky. And yay about no more baby nausea! Hopefully the headaches won't last, they're the worst...

Aaaawwwww!! That is so sweet! They are such gorgeous boys too (you know what I mean when I say that, right...gorgeous in a very manly way.) And you seriously deserve a prize. Eating sausage and tomatoes when you are nauseated-completely awesome!
I hope you get feeling better. It's no fun to feel gross.

Hey, I didn't get any breakfast in bed on the snow day! I guess it would be slightly scarier if my kids were to use the oven without me! They are sweet boys! Glad you are feeling better!

Your boys are fantastic. I love that they made you such a fancy breakfast in bed! You deserve it. And I am SO glad to hear your nausea is gone. I'll do a happy dance for you right now. Be glad you can't see it.

The funniest part of that post was the breakfast meat. I don't know anyone who lives outside of the South who eats meat for breakfast.
I want a snow day from my kids.

I want a snow day too!

Yeah for Breakfast in Bed! Short story ('cuz it's all about me, right?) - One day my MIL was sick and told her 4 little boys not to touch the stove while she was unconscious. So, when they decided it was lunch time, they started a fire outside, heated a can of soup, and brought her lunch in bed.

How is your blood pressure? Be sure and listen to your body. Migrainish headaches and shooting lights can be an indication of problems. Listen to the Spirit, listen to your body - take it easy (my body put me on bedrest last preg - thank goodness, because my Dr. didn't), and feel for movements. Have your Dr. check for other signs of toxemia. Diminished movements - do not hesitate to go in for a stress test! Really. It made the life/death difference for BittE.

When reading about your breakfast in bed, I had a flash of panic. A strong visual of me eating child prepared "food" caused an audible gasp to escape my mouth. I haven't experienced it yet, my kids are too young, but my days of joyously downing creations loving made just for me are soon to come.

Thanks for the foresight.
